Collections—What may seem mundane on it’s own, gains significance when gathered en masse

Why is it that an item can seem quite ordinary, but gather together a number of similar items and it becomes a thing of beauty? For instance, any one of these glasses on their own would more than likely not give you a reason to give them a second look (okay, some of them might), but the collection, especially when artfully arranged, has an immediate and powerful impact. This concept can be especially helpful to remember when shopping estate sales as lone glasses can often be snatched up for a fraction of what they would cost in a set.

Books are another example of items that can easily be collected and when displayed artfully can transform a room.

The same holds true for the serious collector as well as can be seen with this fabulous milk glass collection—while the colored pieces are more rare, the white is a staple at most estate sales.

And my personal favorite is a wall of seascapes which I have in my own home and they always catch my eye whether scrolling through images on Instagram or especially preview pictures for an estate sale.
